Your most valuable commodity – Part 2

Yesterday I told you a little story to show how, by putting your attention on the wrong things, you can actually damage your business or life. Today we are going to talk about how to safeguard your attention.

The first thing is: Stop reading the newspaper or watching the news on TV. Now, you might think that reading the paper keeps you informed about what is happening, but the problem is that newspapers and the TV news deal primarily in bad news.

You will be tying your attention up in negative things every day. If you don’t believe this, I challenge you to just stop reading the paper and watching the news for one week and see if you feel different.

The second thing: Get rid of other people that spread negativity in your life. This could be people who complain about their life or the bad condition of the economy, political situation etc. I saw a really cool poster in an office last week. It read ” Complaining about a problem without presenting a solution is called whining”.

If you are not taking responsibility for something that is wrong in your environment and acting to make it better, you are just doing yourself and others a disservice by complaining about it.

Now you might have friends and family that complain and spread negativity, and you are obviously not going to just “get rid” of them, but you could tell them to not speak about these kind of things unless they or you are going to do something about it.

Not only will you start feeling better, but you will have more attention available to focus on creating an awesome life…

In the next part of this series we will look more at this commodity called attention and how you can use it to build the life and business you desire.
